Nanofiltration (NF)

Short definitionMembrane filtration that sits between UF and RO, retaining multivalent ions (hardness) and organics while letting part of the monovalent salts through.

NF membranes remove hardness, sulphate and colour-causing organic matter at high rates while partially letting sodium and chloride through. They operate at lower pressure than RO and consume less energy. Also known as "membrane softening", NF is preferred for colour and hardness removal in drinking water and for separation applications in food processes.
