Wastewater Treatment Systems

Wastewater generated in production plants, hotels, hospitals and communal living facilities cannot be released to the sewer or a receiving water body without treatment. For discharge to a receiving body, the sectoral discharge standards of the Turkish Water Pollution Control Regulation apply; for discharge to the sewer, the limits of the relevant municipality or water and sewerage authority apply. Meeting these limits is the legal obligation of the business; non-compliance carries the risk of administrative fines and suspension of operations under Environmental Law No. 2872.

We always start the design with the characterisation of the wastewater: flow rate, COD, BOD, suspended solids, oil and grease, pH and, where the sector requires it, heavy metal values are measured. Next, the destination of the discharge and the limit values that must be met for your sector are determined, and the design is made for this target.

For domestic-type wastewater, biological treatment is usually sufficient; MBR, MBBR or extended aeration activated sludge systems are selected according to the space constraints of the facility. For industrial wastewater, the pretreatment stage is decisive; equalisation, neutralisation, chemical precipitation and grease trap units protect the biological stage.
