How do Softening Systems work?
Calcium and magnesium minerals dissolved in water cause permanent hardness, in other words limescale. Hard water clogs pipework, causes serious damage to systems and leads to significant energy losses; when consumed, it can trigger stomach, intestinal and skin complaints.
Our softening systems remove Ca and Mg minerals from the water by ion exchange. Time-controlled (single) units regenerate once every 24 hours. The volumetric type measures the water passing through with a meter and prevents unnecessary salt and water consumption. The duplex (tandem) type switches to the second tank while the first one regenerates, producing soft water without interruption.
The resins are selected from certified food-contact materials. The system is sized according to the total flow to be treated and the hardness value. A correctly sized line lowers boiler and heat exchanger maintenance costs, reduces fuel consumption and keeps plant downtime to a minimum.
