Iron and Manganese Removal

Short definitionThe process of oxidising the dissolved iron (Fe²⁺) and manganese (Mn²⁺) in well water and retaining them with a filter.

Water with Fe > 0.3 mg/L and Mn > 0.1 mg/L leaves red-brown or black stains and fouls resins and membranes. Removal involves oxidation by aeration, chlorine or permanganate, followed by catalytic media (Birm, Pyrolox, greensand) or multimedia filtration. It is critical for colour quality in textile and food plants.
