Langelier Saturation Index (LSI)

Short definitionA calculated index that shows whether water is scale-forming (positive) or corrosive (negative) with respect to calcium carbonate.

LSI = pH − pHs; pHs is calculated from temperature, TDS, calcium hardness and alkalinity. If LSI > 0 in the RO concentrate, antiscalant or acid dosing is required. It is also the basic reference for conditioning cooling towers and distribution networks.
