Micron (µm) Filtration

Short definitionA classification that states, in micrometres, the particle size retained by sediment cartridge filters.

1 micron = 0.001 mm. A 5 µm cartridge is standard before RO; 1 µm and 0.5 µm cartridges are used in sensitive applications. A "nominal" rating retains 85–90% of the stated size, while an "absolute" rating retains 99.9%. Cartridges are replaced when the differential pressure reaches 1 bar.
