EDI is an advanced water treatment technology that produces ultrapure water by continuously removing the ions dissolved in water with the help of electrical energy and without chemicals. The resin is regenerated continuously and instantly by direct current (DC) electricity; since no acid or caustic is used, it is preferred in pharmaceutical, electronics and power plants. Its feed must be RO product water (TDS < 40 ppm, hardness < 1 ppm, low CO₂). The product water conductivity is stable, in the range of ≤0.05–0.01 µS/cm; with a cation-anion system, conductivity varies (≤1 µS/cm) and a mixed bed may be needed afterwards.
