UV systems leave no taste, odour or chemical residue in the water; however, they have no residual effect, so they are used at the end of the storage and distribution line or on a recirculation loop. For effectiveness, the water must be clear (UV transmittance > 85%); the lamp is replaced annually and the quartz sleeve is cleaned or replaced periodically. The typical dose is 40 mJ/cm².
