Problem
At the Nefross haemodialysis centre in Jalal-Abad, Kyrgyzstan, the medical devices used in treatment needed water that was free of bacteria, pH-adjusted and of low conductivity during blood purification. A complete treatment line was required so that these values could be maintained continuously at the facility abroad as well.
Solution
- Pretreatment with a chlorine dosing pump, sand and carbon filters
- Duplex softening system and an antiscalant unit
- First pass with RO2250 reverse osmosis, pH-controlled dosing
- Second pass with RO1500 reverse osmosis from an intermediate transfer tank
- Demineralisation system and redox-controlled dosing
- Supply to the dialysis unit with a treated water tank and booster set
- UV disinfection and 0.22 micron endotoxin filtration after the treated water tank
Result
Nefross's haemodialysis machines run on pure water from double-pass reverse osmosis; the entire line, from the raw water tank to the final filtration, was installed by a single provider and keeps the water free of bacteria, pH-balanced and of low conductivity. After the treated water tank, the UV system inactivates bacteria and germs that may enter from the air; because the dead bacteria inactivated by UV remain in the water, they are removed with a 0.22 micron endotoxin filter.
